Contrapositionally complemented Heyting algebras and intuitionistic logic with minimal negation.Anuj Kumar More & Mohua Banerjee - 2023 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 31 (3):441-474.
Two algebraic structures, the contrapositionally complemented Heyting algebra (ccHa) and the contrapositionally |$\vee $| complemented Heyting algebra (c|$\vee $|cHa), are studied. The salient feature of these algebras is that there are two negations, one intuitionistic and another minimal in nature, along with a condition connecting the two operators. Properties of these algebras are discussed, examples are given and comparisons are made with relevant algebras. Intuitionistic Logic with Minimal Negation (ILM) corresponding to ccHas and its extension |${\textrm {ILM}}$|-|${\vee }$| for c|$\vee (...)

    Some algebras and logics from quasiorder-generated covering-based approximation spaces.Arun Kumar & Mohua Banerjee - 2024 - Journal of Applied Non-Classical Logics 34 (2):248-268.
In A. Kumar, & M. Banerjee [(2012). Definable and rough sets in covering-based approximation spaces. In T. Li. (eds.), Rough sets and knowledge technology (pp. 488–495). Springer-Verlag], A. Kumar, & M. Banerjee [(2015). Algebras of definable and rough sets in quasi order-based approximation spaces. Fundamenta Informaticae, 141(1), 37–55], authors proposed a pair of lower and upper approximation operators based on granules generated by quasiorders. This work is an extension of algebraic results presented therein. A characterisation has (...)

Kleene Algebras and Logic: Boolean and Rough Set Representations, 3-Valued, Rough Set and Perp Semantics.Arun Kumar & Mohua Banerjee - 2017 - Studia Logica 105 (3):439-469.
A structural theorem for Kleene algebras is proved, showing that an element of a Kleene algebra can be looked upon as an ordered pair of sets, and that negation with the Kleene property is describable by the set-theoretic complement. The propositional logic \ of Kleene algebras is shown to be sound and complete with respect to a 3-valued and a rough set semantics. It is also established that Kleene negation can be considered as a modal operator, due to a perp (...)

Role of Socio-Cultural Capital and Country-Level Affluence in Ethical Consumerism.Verma Prikshat, Parth Patel, Sanjeev Kumar, Suraksha Gupta & Ashish Malik - forthcoming - Journal of Business Ethics:1-15.
So far, most ethical consumerism research has been contained within Western countries, thus limiting our understanding of the concept in emerging markets. Given the call for extending empirical-based knowledge for a better understanding of peculiarities, dynamics and country-level variations (i.e. social, cultural) in the context of ethical consumerism in emerging markets, this research cross-examines the interactive nature of individual- and country-level predictors of ethical consumerism in emerging and developed markets, employing a multilevel approach. At the individual level, we posit that (...)

The Origin of Species by Means of Mathematical Modelling.Nikolai Bessonov, Natalia Reinberg, Malay Banerjee & Vitaly Volpert - 2018 - Acta Biotheoretica 66 (4):333-344.
Darwin described biological species as groups of morphologically similar individuals. These groups of individuals can split into several subgroups due to natural selection, resulting in the emergence of new species. Some species can stay stable without the appearance of a new species, some others can disappear or evolve. Some of these evolutionary patterns were described in our previous works independently of each other. In this work we have developed a single model which allows us to reproduce the principal patterns in (...)

Complex Dynamics of an SIR Epidemic Model with Saturated Incidence Rate and Treatment.Soovoojeet Jana, Swapan Kumar Nandi & T. K. Kar - 2015 - Acta Biotheoretica 64 (1):65-84.
This paper describes a traditional SIR type epidemic model with saturated infection rate and treatment function. The dynamics of the model is studied from the point of view of stability and bifurcation. Basic reproduction number is obtained and it is shown that the model system may possess a backward bifurcation. The global asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium is studied with the help of a geometric approach. Optimal control problem is formulated and solved. Some numerical simulation works are carried out (...)

Rethinking the Human and the Social: Towards a Multiverse of Transformations.Ananta Kumar Giri - 2011 - International Journal of Social Quality 1 (1):109-120.
Our understanding of the human and the social, as well as our realization of these, are in need of fundamental transformations, as our present day use of these are deeply anthropocentric, Eurocentric and dualistic. Human development discourse looks at the human in an adjectival way, so does the social quality approach to the category of the social: neither reflects the profound rethinking both the categories have gone through even in the Western theoretical imagination. In this context, the present essay explores (...)

Beyond Sociology: An Introduction and An Invitation.Ananta Kumar Giri - 2018 - In Beyond Sociology: Trans-Civilizational Dialogues and Planetary Conversations. Springer Singapore. pp. 1-10.
Exploring new frontiers of sociology does not mean extending existing theories and methods but rather interrogating some of its uncritically accepted modernist assumptions, such as the equating of society and nation-state, the dualism of individual and society and that of ontology and epistemology. Beyond Sociology explores pathways in which we go beyond sociology in terms of exploring the contours of a transformational sociology; this seeks to transform the assumptions of conventional sociological theorizing and practice as well as modes of sociological (...)

An efficient recurrent neural network with ensemble classifier-based weighted model for disease prediction.Ramesh Kumar Krishnamoorthy & Tamilselvi Kesavan - 2022 - Journal of Intelligent Systems 31 (1):979-991.
Day-to-day lives are affected globally by the epidemic coronavirus 2019. With an increasing number of positive cases, India has now become a highly affected country. Chronic diseases affect individuals with no time identification and impose a huge disease burden on society. In this article, an Efficient Recurrent Neural Network with Ensemble Classifier is built using VGG-16 and Alexnet with weighted model to predict disease and its level. The dataset is partitioned randomly into small subsets by utilizing mean-based splitting method. Various (...)

    Nonlocal Reaction–Diffusion Equations in Biomedical Applications.V. Volpert, O. Udovenko, M. Kuznetsov & M. Banerjee - 2022 - Acta Biotheoretica 70 (2):1-28.
Nonlocal reaction–diffusion equations describe various biological and biomedical applications. Their mathematical properties are essentially different in comparison with the local equations, and this difference can lead to important biological implications. This review will present the state of the art in the investigation of nonlocal reaction–diffusion models in biomedical applications. We will consider various models arising in mathematical immunology, neuroscience, cancer modelling, and we will discuss their mathematical properties, nonlinear dynamics, resulting spatiotemporal patterns and biological significance.

Pathways of creative research: towards a festival of dialogues.Ananta Kumar Giri (ed.) - 2017 - Delhi: Primus Books.
In a world becoming increasingly sensitive to the failings of narrow empiricism this book offers insights into creative and meaningful approaches to research. It explores ontological epistemology of participation as a new pathway of research as well as conceptualization of reality which goes beyond conventional methods such as participant observation and the familiar dualisms between qualitative and the quantitative and epistemology and ontology. Drawing on the editor's wide ranging network of creative scholars at work in the world of academia and (...)

Text document classification and clustering is an important learning task which fits to both data mining and machine learning areas. The learning task throws several challenges when it is required to process high dimensional text documents. Word distribution in text documents plays a very key role in learning process. Research related to high dimensional text document classification and clustering is usually limited to application of traditional distance functions and most of the research contributions in the existing literature did not consider (...)

Understanding the values that inform regenerative ranching in the Northern U.S. Great Plains.Timothy Pape, Gwendŵr Meredith, David Sandahl, Md Faizul Kabir, Simanti Banerjee, Craig Allen, Elliot Dennis & Mitchell Stephenson - forthcoming - Agriculture and Human Values:1-12.
The effects of environmental degradation and climate change are propelling a discourse shift towards regenerative agriculture, yet understanding motivations for implementing regenerative practices on private agricultural lands is still a challenge. We study that challenge within the realm of regenerative ranching, a subcategory of regenerative agriculture. By examining the frequency of values articulated by respondents, a valuation typology stemming from 24 semi-structured interviews with ranchers in Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota is revealed. Instrumental valuations dominated in the studied region (...)

The practice of terminal discharge: Is it euthanasia by stealth?Lalit Kumar Radha Krishna, Vengadasalam Murugam & Daniel Song Chiek Quah - 2018 - Nursing Ethics 25 (8):1030-1040.
‘Terminal discharges’ are carried out in Singapore for patients who wish to die at home. However, if due diligence is not exercised, parallels may be drawn with euthanasia. We present a theoretical discussion beginning with the definition of terminal discharges and the reasons why they are carried out in Singapore. By considering the intention behind terminal discharges and utilising a multidisciplinary team to deliberate on the clinical, social and ethical intricacies with a patient- and context-specific approach, euthanasia is avoided. It (...)
